Seeing as we are a bit obsessed with bridal styling over here at Charlotte Nichols Weddings, I figured there was no better way to introduce myself and kick of our ‘Understated Wow’ blog series, than to delve into the top trends for the coming year and what I can’t wait to see on the most fashion-forward brides. So let’s get right to it…
The Spring ‘18 shows at Bridal Fashion week certainly brought a few surprises but this has certainly got to be what stole the show, and I am a BIG fan. We have seen soft, muted colour versions of the traditional white wedding gown in the past few years but nothing as daring as this. Wearing black to a wedding even as a guest has traditionally been seen as a faux pas, but don’t worry we’re not talking head to do in a black ensemble, but the unexpected touches and details that scream timeless elegance. Think wicked black heels, delicate ribbon detailing and subtle black lace.
And if we’re bringing it into the bridal wardrobe, why not play with some black touches in your wedding decor too. Black cutlery, metallics, and paper goods will add that dramatic and modern touch that works so well for a winter do.
Florals, for Spring, probably doesn’t sound groundbreaking, but believe me, the 3D applique florals we are seeing on next season’s gowns are pretty spectacular. And you’ve probably noticed on your window shopping trips 🙂 that the retail world has been on the bandwagon for a while – bold and brilliant floral designs are making statements on your everyday jeans and t-shirts. Again, you don’t need to look like you’ve been covered in confetti, it’s all about the subtle details that create the wow factor.
For many ladies out there, spending a day in a long, white gown and tripping over a never ending cathedral veil just isn’t really their thing. Good news is that your favourite bridal designers are listening and ensuring that you can feel 100% yourself on your wedding day. That might just mean teaming your traditional dress with a denim jacket and pair of converse, or saying “I do” in separates might be more what you had in mind. The choices are endless, strut your stuff in a chic bridal suit, think laid-back glam in a sleek jumpsuit or put together your own combo of sweater and skirt if it’s a frosty occasion.
If you’re sitting on the fence about exactly how laid-back to go, consider a dual outfit, something smarter for the ceremony and then dressing down for the party!
Look out ladies, baby blue is the new millennial pink. It’s been popping up on the catwalks in recent months, Gigi Hadid has been donning the icy hue, and now it’s predicted to make its mark on the bridal scene. Blue is for the stylish, no-nonsense woman looking to make her mark. Never mind that something blue, it’s all about blue in 2018.
Anyone who knows me will know that I am a sucker for anything velvet, and it’s just about all we’re seeing at the moment, from the trendiest interior design projects to your favourite footwear stores. It just makes for the most perfect finishing touch to any outfit, stationery suite or luxe tablescape. Often associated with velvet though is winter and dark, rich colour palettes, but that couldn’t be more wrong, and velvet textures just work perfectly in more muted tones too.
Are any of these top trends tickling your fancy for a 2018 wedding?
